Description

Created in 1986 with the support of the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA), other Canadian and African NGOs, Partnership Africa Canada works in partnership with organizations in Africa, Canada and internationally to build sustainable human development in Africa. In 1996, PAC expanded its mandate to focus on policy.

The organization’s main objectives include strengthening African and Canadian efforts in research and policy dialogue relating to sustainable human development in Africa; facilitating, among African, Canadian and international decision-makers, the adoption and implementation of policies that foster sustainable human development in Africa; and promoting greater understanding of and commitment to sustainable human development in Africa.

Track Record

The success of PAC’s work in Africa hinges on its wide support of funding hundreds of innovative projects promoting sustainable development in sub-Saharan Africa. This has helped African and Canadian civil society organizations strengthen their capacity and involvement in research, policy dialogue and advocacy relating to issues of sustainable human development in Africa. In last five years PAC has made a significant contribution to strengthening policy dialogue involving Canadian and African civil society, governments and international organizations.

In addition, PAC has facilitated the participation of African civil society organizations in a number of key Africa-related fora such as UN-NADAF reviews, TICAD II conferences, ECA, ADB and OAU meetings, NEPAD and G8 related events. Over and above helping create space for dialogue, PAC has also worked with a wide range of civil society groups and governments in a groundbreaking program of research and advocacy related to the exploitation of natural resources and conflict in Africa. The Conflict Diamonds program includes research, policy dialogue and advocacy in the campaign against conflict diamonds.
