Description
The Fossil Fuel Foundation is an organization constituted for the purpose of furthering science and technology in the carbon and energy industries and optimize resources available to the region.
In essence, these goals can be achieved through stimulating and providing a sound education base, a strong research and technology network, enhanced distribution of information, and the promotion of collaboration through improved communication throughout the FF industry — producers, manufactures and users, plus researchers, equipment manufacturers and technology developers.
The vision of the Fossil Fuel Foundation of Africa is to be a world class, knowledge-based institution serving the techno-intellectual needs of the multidisciplinary fossil fuel and energy community in Southern Africa through communication, information distribution, coordination, education, promotion and networking.
This is to be achieved by maintaining a centre which coordinates a national forum of multidisciplinary professionals in government, industry and academia; the creation of a strong network between all sectors and all levels in the fossil fuel industry with a comprehensive database or directory of who’s who in each field for the use of members and non-members alike; the hosting of appropriate conferences and related events for the optimum transfer of state-of-the art technical information within and between all relevant disciplines in the fossil fuel industry; the management and coordination of special projects of relevance to the region; the promotion of fossil fuels, alternative energies and their effective use through encouraging good practice in feedstock characterisation and process operation thereby achieving technical astuteness, increased efficiency, environmental protection and maximum cost effectiveness and the promotion of education at all levels and in all relevant disciplines, for the benefit of all sectors in government, industry, schools and the public at large.
The scope of the Fossil Fuel Foundation includes coal, oil, natural gas and coalbed methane gas and alternative energies.
The ultimate objectives of the Foundation are to encourage the development of suitable technology for the region and a sound coal, hydrocarbon investigations and energy-related research base; to promote value-added manufacturing prospects with regard to the production of carbon-based chemicals and cost-effective energy for the processing of the multitude of other valuable raw materials in the region and to stimulate industry through enhanced manpower education and training, product research and development and improved employment opportunities. If done correctly, this will enhance the quality of life and environment for the peoples in the region.
In summary, it is envisaged that the initiatives emanating from the Foundation could lead to enhanced education and training, improved communication through awareness, better job employment opportunities and increased research and development which would lead to optimum production and utilization of the natural resources of the region.
Technology suitably adapted to local needs and conditions would lead to optimum environmental protection.
