Description

The Central African Media Organization (OMAC, Organization des médias d’Afrique centrale) was created at the beginning of December 2002 in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo with the aim of defending and promoting free expression development in the region, contributing to the financial and technological independence of newspaper companies as well as reinforcing cooperation and solidarity among media professionals on both a national, regional and international level. It unites newspaper associations, press freedom groups, media executives and journalists of the Central African countries.

Beyond the OMAC head office, situated in the Burundian capital Bujumbura, and in the short term, there are no plans to open regional offices. However, each member of the executive committee is considered as the focal point of OMAC in his or her country. The Committee includes members from Chad, Cameroon, Burundi, DRC, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon and Rwanda.
