Description

The African Wind Energy Association (AfriWEA) was founded in 2002 to encourage manufacturers, developers, governments, renewable energy owners and individuals to promote and support wind energy development in Africa. Its membership exceeds 90 people drawn from Cameroon, Cape Verde, Egypt, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Libya, Malawi, Mali, Morocco, Mozambique, Namibia, Nigeria, Senegal, South Africa, Tunisia and Uganda.

AfriWEA’s vision is to serve as an influential umbrella organization representing the wind energy sector in Africa to promote interaction and cooperation between energy players. It seeks to promote the development of and investment in wind energy and advance regional cooperation by encouraging communication and collaboration between other African wind energy and renewable energy member committees in Africa to promote renewable energy policy goals seeking economic development; poverty alleviation; environmental protection and improvement in the quality of life in Africa.

Track Record

The African Wind Energy Association promotes and supports wind energy development in Africa by facilitating the exchange of political and technical information, expertise and experience in the wind energy sector.

AfriWEA has organized conferences and seminars such as the annual World Wind Energy Conferences, published books, papers and journals, disseminated an online newsletter and promoted implementation of cooperative action in the fulfillment of its purposes.
