Description
AfriCASO, a nonprofit organization established in 1991, is a network of Non Governmental Organizations (NGOs), Community Based Organizations (CBOs), Groups of People Living with HIV/AIDS (PLWAs), and other African HIV/AIDS community groups affiliated to the International Council of AIDS Service Organizations (ICASO) based in Dakar, Senegal. AfriCASO’s mission is to promote and facilitate the development of HIV and AIDS community response in Africa through Advocacy, Networking, development of sustainable organizational systems and capacity building for Networks, NGOs, CBOs and PLWHAs groups to improve the quality of life of communities.
AfriCASO is currently represented in the 5 African sub-regions, namely Southern (SANASO), Eastern (EANNASO), Central (CANASO), Western (WANASO) and Northern (NANASO) regions. These sub-regions are composed of in-country networks or coalitions, key national organizations or individuals that act as canals for in-country information sharing, disseminating policy and program information, lessons learnt on issues such as developing civil society organizations, participating in the development and monitoring of national AIDS policies, successes, and strategies for advocacy.
Track Record
The main milestone attributed to AfriCASO is its contribution to the emergence of a strong African civil society present in both national and international processes, which AfriCASO wishes to implement.
